Brayden got his first taste of real food on Monday night! The Dr told us at his 4 month checkup to wait until he was about 5 months old (he will be 5 months on Friday) to start trying a single grain cereal.
Brayden started watching us eat, making chewing motions, & wanting to be at the table with us a few weeks ago, so we decided that he was ready & gave it a try. We started out last week by just letting him sit in the highchair while we ate dinner.
Trying out the highchair.
Then this week we moved on to actually eating. He did GREAT!! I fixed about 1/2 tbsp to start with & he ate most of it. Most of it actually went & stayed in his mouth! Tuesday & Wednesday nights he had 1 tbsp & again did great! There are 2 problems though: 1)I can never seem to get the consistency of the cereal right...too runny or too thick. Any advice? 2) Brayden is so small that he barely fits in the highchair...we have to put a blanket in the seat to raise him up enough to see over the tray.
In a few weeks, we will move on to Stage 1 fruits & veggies!

Yay. Brayden. Life gets real fun now that you can smash your hands around in mushy fruits and veggies!!
For the rice cereal mixture, i use a 1:1 mixture. 1 tbsp cereal or oatmeal to 1 ounce milk. That gives a pretty good base and you can always add more cereal or milk if you need to adjust. Once Brayden starts eating the fruit and veggie purees, you can add those to the cereal too for some variety.
He looks so adorable in his highchair!
